Sheikh el-Haj el-Fakir er-Rifa’i Mehmet Sherif Çatalkaya was born in Istanbul, Turkey. He began his religious training at the age of six in a school where he learned to memorize the Quran, Islam’s holiest book, and continued his education at the age of 17 at a traditional medresse (Islamic seminary). At 33, he found the spiritual teachings of Sufism.

Sherif Baba received his Sufi training in the Rifa’i-Marufi, Halveti, Qadiri, Bektashi, Nakshibendi, and Melami Sufi orders in Turkey, where he is revered as an eren, one who has attained. Baba is currently living in Istanbul, and has been an active teacher throughout the United States and Turkey, lecturing on spirituality and healing at universities and conferences throughout the U.S. and Canada. For many years, he was the host of the annual Rumi Festival in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The teachings of Sherif Baba illuminate the beauty and heart of the message brought by the prophets and saints of all traditions.

Details

Friday evening, February 24th, will happen at the Quaker Meeting Hall, 1090 West 70th Avenue in Vancouver.

Saturday February 25th will run from 10 AM to 5 PM at the Spaceship Semahane at Cennet & Will Garland’s (4050 West 34th Avenue, Vancouver). A meat stew and a veggie/vegan lunch will be provided, although you are welcome to bring snacks, (fruit, cheese, bread etc)

Saturday February 25th, 8pm with HuDost and Sherif Baba and special guests at The Center for Blissful Living in the Prana Yoga College, 293 East 2nd Avenue, Vancouver

No Universal Kirtan in March. Next one is April 7th

We regret to inform you that there will be no Universal Kirtan in March. Please join us on Saturday April 7th, for our next kirtan.

New Year’s Eve Celebration

Usher in the New Year with prayers, songs, food, and sacredness.

Quaker Hall, 1090 West 70th Ave (just west of Oak St)
8pm
– Dances of Universal Peace
– brief refreshment break
– Kirtan chanting until midnight
– Midnight Ceremony to remove obstacles and promote Beauty for the upcoming year

$20 (proceeds go the Hope Project)

If you can, please bring a beverage and/or nibble for the food table. If you’re partial to your favorite kirtan pillow, please bring it as there will be a limited number of cushions available. And bring your friends!!

Note: because of the New Year’s Eve Celebration, there will not be a Universal Kirtan in January 2012.

The Caravan of the Message is the Vancouver centre of the Sufi Order International. The goal of the Caravan is to promote love, harmony, and beauty using the teachings of Sufism and Hazrat Inayat Khan.
